Have you ever read the children's book The City Mouse and The Country Mouse? If you have, you might remember how both mice were relieved to be back at their own homes because that's where they belonged. I grew up in a big, busy city. When I moved into our first suburban home with my husband, I LOVED the abundance of space - space for yard, pool, garden, more space to decorate! It felt like a huge upgrade from my parents' small flat in the city center with the noisy hustle and bustle. And then we visited a big city for vacation. There were museums, boutique stores, food at every step. I felt at home. It felt right. I didn't expect that. When we came back to our spacey home, it felt empty - I missed the city. I had to come to terms with the fact that I will always be a big city girl at heart.
